Collective Worship

Collective worship is an extremely important part of our school day, as it provides the children and staff opportunities to pray, reflect, celebrate and worship together. At Woodchurch CE Primary School, we adopt a varied and creative approach to collective worship. Most acts of worship are of a Christian nature, but great care is taken to ensure all faith communities feel included.

Friday - Whole School Celebration Worship

Whole school Worship is one of the main platforms for exploring the school's vision and is centred around our Christian values which permeate every aspect of school life. Worship involves linking a bible story or message to our agreed values, events from the Church's calendar or wider spiritual or cultural issues and events. It involves participation and leadership from the children, invitational prayer and a time to reflect.

Children and staff join together for daily prayers and there is an opportunity for class collective worship which centres on ‘Big Questions’ and is linked to our Christian and British values through Picture News. Children will be encouraged to share their thoughts and questions and reflect on what they have discussed.

We also use the Imaginor collective worship resources Roots and Fruits, Jack In the Box and Oscar out of the Box in our whole school and class based worships. Each act of worship includes the four elements of Welcome, Learning, Reflecting and Responding.

We also enjoy regular visits to Holy Cross Church for services and welcome Reverend Janet into school to lead worship.

Singing is an important part of school life and children and staff are encouraged to sing during worship, services and at our weekly hymn practice, Worship in Song. We learn a variety of traditional and modern hymns, as well as singing contemporary songs.

Each week we come together to celebrate the fantastic work, efforts, achievements  of our children. Through Star of the Week we celebrate children who have been examples and role models through our 5 R's for learning or our school values. We also share our Attendance and punctuality champions as well as recognising those children who have been comitted tot heir homework through our book raffle. . Celebration Assembly is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate in our successes and remember "In all the work you are doing work the best you can..." Colossians 3:23
