RNLI Water Safety Summer 2021

"The school, through its distinctive Christian character, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners." (SIAMS)

RNLI Water Safety Summer 2021

As the RNLI’s Water Safety Officer for the Wirral working with a small team of volunteers on the Wirral promoting water safety , I wanted to get in touch to provide direct access to our current education workshops, resources, activities & campaigns the cover a wide range of school year groups, in the hope that you will be able to share this email with local contacts in your area of responsibility and possibly make a difference

It is anticipated that as this year will be the year of " staycations " and with warmer weather and the longer daylight hours , people will head to the coast and open water environments to relax and spend time with friends and family. In a normal year, around 150 people lose their lives at the coast, and we know that more than half of those never intended to be in the water. The RNLI helps thousands of people who end up getting into difficulty in, on or around the water when doing all types of activities. In 2020, RNLI lifeguards saved 110 lives, aided 25,172 people, and responded to 10,687 incidents, however, lifeguards can’t be everywhere which is why we are asking you to help us share some important messages to children and their families and those who support their activities.

We have not been able to engage with communities as we normally would so we have created & updated a wide range of resources that will be accessible for all to use to help everyone stay as safe as possible around our coast and inland water ways.

As part of the email, I have included link to RNLI Ambassador scheme where it is possible to sign up to get up to date promotion posters to be displayed and updates as messages change with seasons , also links to material that could be used in newsletters to help spread the safety messages

If I can be of any more help now or in the future, please do not hesitate to make contact , and thank you for taking the time to read this email .

Step Aboard!

Hi Teachers, Leaders & Youth Activity Supporters,

We've been living in very different times recently. More people than ever have been flocking to the coast for local staycations. At the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), we've been busier too, launching to rescue more people in trouble by the water.

That's why I'm getting in touch on behalf of the RNLI's Water Safety Team to share how we can help everyone at your school, college, university or youth group keep themselves, their friends and their family safe around the water – from seas and streams to pools and ponds.

Take a look at our video to find out just how we can help deliver essential life skills to your school – and why they're more important than ever.
